Renault plans to include a compact SUV in their offer, based on their successful Megane model. The design of this vehicle will be partially influenced by the Captur concept that was introduced in 2011.
Renault Megane SUV will be the biggest rival of Peugeot 3008 also planned for 2015. Renault plans to use the experience of their partners in Nissan and their successful story with Qashqai model in order to produce a superior SUV.
These two models, Qashqai and Megane, will also share a same platform and some mechanical components. Renders about this new SUV have already started to circulate over the internet.
At first glance, the front part of Renault Megane SUV will be similar to Renault’s concepts – DeZir and Captur. This will be most visible on the grille and the headlights equipped with LED technology.
It is planned that Renault’s new crossover to be mounted with 18 inch alloy wheels, while the length of the vehicle in general to be similar to the length of Nissan Qashqai which means around 4,5 meters. Unlike Nissan’s crossover, Megane SUV would be offered to customers only in 5 seats version – a seven seats option will not be included.
This new Renault model will have Front-wheel drive and it will be available with a range of engines. The standard engines will include 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol engine with 115 hp and 1.6 turbo diesel engine with 150 hp.
In addition to six-speed manual gearbox there will be a gearbox with double clutch too.
This SUV is something that Renault was missing in their offer for quite a long time.
